President & CEO

Since assuming leadership of SOS in May of 2010, Ryan Hertz and his team have expanded the organization’s scope to encompass emergency shelter, rental assistance, affordable housing development, supportive service solutions, and crowdfunding technologies that have contributed to thousands of displaced people getting back on their feet and finding a renewed sense of purpose. Ryan strives to build meaningful relationships with those eager to help realize our agency’s vision for all people throughout Metro Detroit to have a place to call home within a mutually supportive and caring community. Ryan also serves as Board President for Spero Housing Group and the Alliance for Housing; as Board Chair for the Lathrup Village DDA and Chabad of Greater Downtown Detroit; and as a Commissioner for BBYO Michigan Region. He lives in Huntington Woods with his wife and son, and loves making music, traveling, and learning Chassidus.

Chief Operating Officer

Jenny manages the grants, operations, and outcomes around SOS’s shelter and follow-up care programs while developing new programming. Jenny’s favorite part of working at SOS are her colleagues. Everyone is so positive and fun to be around. We are all committed to our mission and work tirelessly to accomplish great things. Jenny loves spending her spare time in the city and cooking new and interesting foods.

Russ Russell
Chief Development Officer

Russ is responsible for managing the operations and resources for fundraising, corporate giving and development. He also oversees the organization’s events, communications and marketing efforts. Russ’s favorite part of working at SOS is that the agency is truly “the little engine that could”- SOS’ team energy and can-do spirit is everything I am about! In his spare time, Russ loves helping out in his community, working out, and learning to play the guitar.

Eric-ZuckerEric Zucker
Director of Operations

Eric manages the SOS office building to create a safe and friendly work environment. Additionally, he is in charge of grant management and works directly with the CPA on SOS’s yearly audit. Eric’s favorite thing about working at SOS is the variety of things he works on. “I wear Carharts to suits depending on what needs to be addressed.” Eric loves playing sports, art and music.
